Residual Value

What is it?

The residual value defines the value of an object at the time of damage. Two factors are taken into account: 1) the acquisition value and 2) the age. To determine this residual value, an annual percentage is usually deducted from the original value. The frequency of use cannot be taken into account in this calculation as it is very difficult to measure and prove.

Residual for baggage services

Should your damaged luggage not be repairable, we will exchange it for the same or a later model. If this is not possible (manufacturer or model no longer exists, ...), you will receive an adequate replacement from us (possibly from another manufacturer). Please keep in mind that this is only possible, if we do not have to deduct too much due to age. If there is a value deduction which makes an exchange impossible, you will be informed by us about the remaining value, as well as the further procedure. You will receive various luggage suggestions and offers from us, as well as the possibility to choose a new piece of luggage from our assortment or from that of our partners.

The percentage of depreciation is prescribed to us by each airline. Irrespective of the 10% (annual) value that the majority of airlines use, this is not based on any legal requirement. An annual deduction of 20% is also common practice for various airlines. Most airlines use a linear depreciation method, a few use a declining balance method. This is also prescribed for us and is therefore binding for us.
