File Reference Number
Where Can You Find It?
There are several ways you can receive a file reference number:
-
It is usually stated on a damage report that you received at the airport when you’ve registered a claim about damaged luggage.
Damage Report Sample (LOT) - 2) If you subsequently report the damage to the airline, you will usually receive a confirmation via E-Mail. A refernce number is often given to you as well.
What Does It Stand for?
The file reference number usually consists:
- an airport code (e.g. WAW for Warsaw Chopin Airport, DTM for Dortmund Airport)
- an airline code (e.g. AB for Air Berlin, QR for Qatar Airlines, H9 for Pegasus)
- a random combination of numbers from 1 to 9.
E.g. WAWLO54896, SFXDE66836, NCELH85694, FRAAA01556895, and so on.
However, other variations such as CON-15/05-03232, 22467619, H93FKT29, etc.may also occur.
Why Do We Ask for It?
When your luggage gets damaged during the flight, the damage report(with a file reference number on it) is a document that authorizes us to handle the case. Otherwise, we can only accept your claim on a warranty basis ( only a few manufacturers offer a warranty for tranportation damages) or on a chargable basis.
